Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati addressed the Cabinet session at the Grand Serail, highlighting ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire, which has been in effect for a week.
"These violations have exceeded 60 incidents so far," Mikati said, adding that his communications with the US and France—key players in brokering the ceasefire—reflect their commitment to resolving these breaches.
Mikati noted progress in recent days, saying, "A solid reinforcement of the ceasefire has been achieved, and we hope it transforms into lasting stability, though we remain cautious of violations that could reignite tension."
Addressing displaced citizens returning to their homes, Mikati pledged government support, stating, "We will accompany your honorable return and strive to bolster your resilience socially and economically."
Mikati also expressed gratitude to Lebanon’s international allies for their relief efforts, calling for continued solidarity.
To the Lebanese diaspora, the Prime Minister said, "Lebanon is yours, and you are for Lebanon. Join us in the endeavor to rebuild and create hope with firm trust and determination."
Mikati also voiced optimism regarding Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri's call for a presidential election on January 9, expressing hope for a unifying president to lead the country forward.
The PM concluded by emphasizing the importance of Arab support for the ceasefire and a balanced diplomatic approach to Lebanon’s challenges.
