Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdallah Bou Habib, met with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Head of UN Peacekeeping Operations, who visited him with an accompanying delegation.
In the wake of the meeting, Bou Habib, emphasized that the Israeli government's military actions aim to plunge the region into total war, which will only result in widespread destruction.
Furthermore, Bou Habib insisted that lasting peace and security in southern Lebanon can only be achieved through diplomatic means, a ceasefire, and full adherence to relevant UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, which is vital to preventing further violence.
Speaking to the National News Agency, Foreign Ministry Secretary General, Hani Chmaitili, who attended the meeting, noted that discussions also focused on the current and future roles of UNIFIL in southern Lebanon. He expressed concern about the potential escalation of violence, highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent the situation from deteriorating into full-scale war.
