The Lebanese Kataeb Party has strongly condemned Hezbollah’s recent actions, accusing the group of intimidating civilians, disrupting public order, and directly challenging state authority.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party criticized Hezbollah for its "deliberate confrontation with the Lebanese people," citing recent incidents of roadblocks, attacks on legitimate security forces, and aggression against UNIFIL peacekeepers.
“Hezbollah continues to confront the Lebanese people—first by intimidating them, blocking roads, attacking legitimate security forces, and even targeting UNIFIL; and second, through provocative displays of defiance and accusations of treason, in a dangerous attempt to reinstate dynamics that have collapsed beyond repair,” the statement read.
The Kataeb Party warned that Hezbollah’s actions send “a deeply troubling message” both domestically and internationally. It argued that Hezbollah, through its actions, is squandering the opportunity for reintegration that some local political forces are still offering it despite the suffering the group has inflicted on Lebanon over the years. Meanwhile, Hezbollah is projecting a concerning signal to the international community, which is closely monitoring Lebanon’s internal stability to determine its future engagement with the country.
Furthermore, the party accused Hezbollah leadership of directly orchestrating these disturbances.
“These actions are not spontaneous,” Kataeb said. “They are a clear and deliberate decision by Hezbollah leaders, who actively participated in the demonstrations, fueling incitement and confrontation.”
The party also expressed astonishment at Hezbollah security official Wafiq Safa’s recent disavowal of the riots that erupted on the airport road.
“This security maneuver, in which roles and statements are carefully orchestrated, no longer fools anyone,” the statement added.
Kataeb stressed that Hezbollah must abide by its commitments under the ceasefire agreement, warning against any attempts to derail Lebanon’s stability.
“After all the wars, destruction, death, and occupation it has brought upon Lebanon, Hezbollah should have realized by now that it cannot evade the commitments it agreed to under the ceasefire agreement,” the party stated.
The statement reaffirmed Kataeb’s support for Lebanon’s legitimate security institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army, which has been tasked with maintaining order.
“The Kataeb Party will not allow Hezbollah to obstruct the course of the new presidential term or hinder the government’s work, as the Lebanese people will not compromise on their security and stability under any pretext,” the statement affirmed.
“The Lebanese Army and security forces have assumed their responsibilities based on a clear and firm decision from the President and the government: there will be no turning back, and no leniency toward violations of the law or threats to Lebanon’s civil peace,” the statement concluded, reaffirming the party’s full support for these institutions.
