Immediately upon his return from the Paris conference last night, Minister of Foreign Affairs Youssef Rajji began his contacts in coordination with the Prime Minister regarding the issue of the attack on UNIFIL.
In this context, Minister Rajji called this morning the Head of Mission and its Commander-in-Chief, Major General Aroldo Lazaro, to check on the condition of the wounded soldier, and the UN Special Coordinator, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and consulted with her about the situation in the south, in addition to the necessity of completing the full Israeli withdrawal by February 18 at the latest.
The minister also discussed with Lazaro and Plasschaert the situation of UNIFIL in light of the attack on its convoy yesterday.
Rajji condemned any attack on UNIFIL personnel, stressing the need not to harm the safety and security of its personnel and vehicles, and called for holding accountable the perpetrators of this attack, which violates Lebanese and international laws.
He reiterated Lebanon's commitment to the role of this force and its support for its work, mandate and tasks in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1701, in order to help maintain peace and security.
