The Kataeb Party’s political bureau, chaired by Party Leader Samy Gemayel, convened to discuss recent developments, particularly the incidents along the airport road and attempts to undermine Lebanon’s stability. Following deliberations, the bureau issued the following statement:
1. With the full formation of state institutions and a government that has secured both domestic confidence and significant international backing from the moment of its inception, Lebanon now stands at a crossroads. The country is divided between those striving for stability and the establishment of an effective state and those seeking to derail the path toward sovereignty, reform, and national recovery—a process that began with the election of a president and culminated in the government’s policy statement.
The political bureau asserts that Hezbollah is caught between issuing statements condemning attacks and acts of vandalism, and engaging in security practices that undermine national stability, placing it in direct confrontation with the Lebanese people. These same people have, in times of hardship, shown solidarity with Hezbollah’s base.
The Kataeb Party strongly condemns any rhetoric suggesting that rogue elements, acting under pressure, might resort to security breaches—including assassinations. Such statements are unacceptable, must be rejected outright, and those making them must be held accountable.
Furthermore, the Kataeb Party warns against the continued use of the airport road as a pressure tool to convey political messages. This route serves as Lebanon’s primary gateway to the world, and its security must remain untouchable. While the establishment of additional airports is undoubtedly important, the immediate priority lies in liberating Beirut’s airport and its access routes from Hezbollah’s control and preventing their use as a means of extortion for any reason.
2. The political bureau commends the statement issued following the tripartite meeting at the Presidential Palace, which coincided with the expiration of the extended ceasefire period. The statement reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to diplomatic efforts as the sole means of securing Israel’s full withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
The Kataeb Party expresses its strong support for the Lebanese Army and legitimate security forces, urging them to assist displaced residents in returning safely to their villages.
3. Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem recently stated that the Lebanese state is responsible for reconstructing war-damaged areas. However, Hezbollah itself must acknowledge its direct role in causing this devastation, given that its reckless actions have turned Lebanese villages into battlegrounds.
For reconstruction to be meaningful and lasting, Hezbollah must immediately hand over its weapons and abandon its strategy of using Lebanon as a missile launchpad.
4. With the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria and the emergence of an internationally backed government capable of addressing national issues, the reasons for the continued displacement of Syrian refugees in Lebanon no longer stand. Meanwhile, the demographic, social, and economic impact of their prolonged presence continues to weigh heavily on Lebanon, further exacerbating the country's existing crises.
In this context, the Kataeb Party calls for the immediate return of displaced Syrians to their homeland, ensuring that they can resume their lives among their own people. This step would relieve Lebanon of the burden of a displacement crisis that has already exceeded its capacity to bear.
