Contrary to all expectations, Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam did not announce the government formation after his meeting with President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace.
The meeting, which lasted for about 50 minutes, ended with Salam confirming that he is working on forming a reform government and will not allow it to carry any potential to obstruct its work in any way. He added: 'I have taken my time and worked carefully, facing challenges that some find hard to let go of, or are unwilling to accept a new way of dealing with them.'
He explained that 'criteria I follow are an additional guarantee for the government's independence, I fully understand the importance of political parties in the political life, and without parties, political life in any country cannot function, however, in this critical phase, I have chosen to prioritize government work over political disputes,' he said, emphasizing that his choices 'are an expression of my loyalty to the trust that brought me to the responsibility entrusted to me, and I will not squander it.'
He addressed the Lebanese people, saying: 'I hear you clearly and your aspirations are my guiding compass, and I assure you that I am working on forming a government that will have a high level of harmony among its members and will be committed to the principle of ministerial solidarity.' He continued: 'I am facing several campaigns, but I assure you that despite everything being said, I am ready to spend from my personal resources to ensure that we reach a government that puts Lebanon on the path of reform and state rebuilding.'
