Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received the ambassadors of the Quintet Committee, at the second presidency headquarters in Ain El-Tineh.
The delegation includes US Ambassador Lisa Johnson, Saudi Ambassador Walid Bukhari, French Ambassador Hervé Magro, Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Faisal Al Thani, and Egyptian Ambassador Alaa Moussa.
The meeting took place in the presence of Speaker Berri’s Advisor Ali Hamdan.
The one-hour meeting reportedly focused on the general situation in Lebanon and the region and the political developments, especially the presidential election entitlement and the parliament session devoted to electing a president of the republic scheduled for January 9.
During the meeting, the ambassadors of the quintet committee expressed appreciation to Speaker Berri for scheduling a parliament session to elect a president for the republic on January 9, and they welcomed the achievement of the ceasefire agreement and the efforts made to reach it.
Speaker Berri, in turn, described the meeting with the quintet ambassadors as good, thanking them for their follow-up, and seizing the opportunity to invite them to attend the session on January 9 designated for electing the future president and to witness the attendance, quorum, and election.
Berri also stressed the "urgent national need to fulfill the presidential election entitlement, especially in these circumstances and amidst the rapid changes in the region, especially what is happening in Syria."
On the other hand , Berri received in Ain El-Tineh the Head of Public Procurement Authority, Dr. Jean Ellieh.
Berri also met with head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, with whom he broached the current general situation and political developments, especially the presidential election dossier.
On emerging, MP Bassil said Bassil said: "The atmosphere is positive and there is very serious work."
