Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed US Presidential Envoy Amos Hochstein, and his accompanying delegation at the Second Presidency in Ain El-Tineh.
The meeting was attended by US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson, and Berri's media advisor Ali Hamdan.
Discussions reportedly focused on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, particularly in light of the intensifying Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
Following the two-hour meeting, Hochstein addressed the media, stating: "I had a constructive and highly beneficial meeting with Speaker Berri. We have made progress in narrowing the gaps today. I returned because we have a real opportunity to resolve this conflict. This is a moment for decision-making, and I am here in Beirut to facilitate that process."
The US Envoy then emphasized that reaching a solution required the stakeholders' decision. "The solution is within reach, and the window is open now. I hope that in the coming days, we will achieve a resolution,” Hochstein noted.
"I won’t take any questions today as I do not negotiate publicly. I am grateful for the constructive discussions with Speaker Berri, the Prime Minister, and others. I remain committed to working with the governments of Lebanon and Israel to resolve this crisis,” Hochstein concluded.
Separately, Speaker Berri received a congratulatory message from US President Joe Biden marking Lebanon's 81st Independence Day. Biden stated: "On behalf of the American people, I congratulate you and the people of Lebanon on this occasion. During this challenging time in Lebanon’s history, the United States stands with the Lebanese people. I value our partnership in the work ahead."
Biden also expressed hope for continued progress toward shared goals, particularly stability and prosperity, wishing the Lebanese people "strength and resilience during these difficult times.”
