A delegation from the opposition forces, including MPs Fouad Makhzoumi, Michel Moawad, Salim Sayegh, and Michel Douaihy, met with the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the latest developments related to the war in Lebanon.
During the meeting, the attendees stressed the "necessity of stopping the war and implementing international resolutions, most notably Resolution 1701 with all its provisions, including Resolutions 1559 and 1680."
They also called for the implementation of the Taif Agreement, which constitutes the constitutional reference for all these international decisions that serve the interests of the sovereign state.
The MPs stressed "restoring the sovereign decision, the state's monopoly on weapons, the strategic decision, and the deployment of the Lebanese army along the Blue Line and throughout the Lebanese borders."
Finally, they underscored "the necessity of expediting the election of a president for the republic, and not linking the presidential entitlement to any other file, because ending the war in Lebanon and restoring security and stability requires someone who represents legitimacy, from a president of the republic to a government that enjoys the confidence of the council, and productive and effective institutions.”
