Mohammad Shtayyeh, the former prime minister of the Palestinian Authority and member of Fatah’s Central Committee, has held talks with Takeshi Iwaya, the foreign minister of Japan.
In a statement, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said the top diplomat stressed in Thursday’s meeting the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the captives held in the Strip.
Iwaya also underlined the “strong sense of urgency regarding the prolonged and serious humanitarian situation in the enclave”, adding that Japan aims to “play an active role” in the reconstruction of Gaza.
Shtayyeh expressed his appreciation for Japan’s longstanding support for Palestine, according to the statement.
