As “acephalous” Lebanon is still plagued by the detrimental presidential void, youths have decided to stand up and be counted; they decided to unite while leaving their political discrepancies aside.
The youth department at the National Liberal Party was the first to propose such an all-embracing student movement whose main goal would be to pressure the election of a new president.
Soon, the plan was gotten off the ground, now gathering students affiliated to the National Liberal Party, Progressive Socialist Party, Lebanese Kataeb, Lebanese Forces, Free Patriotic Movement, Amal Movement, Syrian Social Nationalist Party, Lebanese Democratic Party and Arab Democratic Party.
The group is set to gather Monday at 18:30 near the Parliament.
Head of the National Liberal Party’s youth department, Simon Dergham, stressed that such a movement reflects the students’ patriotic commitment as well as their respect to the country’s constitutional dues regardless of their leaders’ stances.
The group will issue a joint statement outlining the need to elect a president as soon as possible, Dergham told MTV website.
