The former head of government, Omar Karami, gave a speech Saturday from his home in Beirut, on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the assassination of his brother, former Prime Minister Rashid Karami.
He then appealed to all Lebanese, and especially Tripolitans, cautioning against "conflicts of an interfaith character," referring to the week of violence that rocked parts of the city, leaving tens dead and wounded.
He, therefore, called on residents of the capital of North Lebanon to close ranks and unite to prevent their city from "drowning in a blood bath."
"Let your only choice be the state institutions, the legitimacy of the state, that of respect for the Lebanese army," he stressed.
Karami also called for the convening of a constituent assembly that gathers all Lebanese to discuss hot issues and find solutions.
For his part, he found that the real solution lies in the adoption of a new and modern electoral law, and the formation of a government of salvation.
