Minister of Industry, George Boujikian, met on Sunday with the head of the Chaldean community in Lebanon, Archbishop Michel Kassarji, with talks touching on public affairs in the Bekaa and Zahle regions.
In a statement issued by Boujikian's media office, it indicated that “both men tackled the economic and social conditions prevailing in the country, and how to secure the elements of resilience and sustenance in light of the exacerbation of crises and their impact on people's affairs and the need to relieve pressure on citizens.”
Boujikian thanked Kassarji for his visit, stating that he "endeavors to encourage industrial investments and create a favorable atmosphere to help secure job opportunities," and assuring that “the government is serious in its efforts to place Lebanon on the production, export and recovery track."
The Minister also welcomed "cooperation and coordination with the Chaldeans and the establishment of a social center for them in Zahle."
Kassarji, in turn, congratulated Boujikian on assuming his duties at the Industry Ministry, commending his qualifications and practical and executive skills and capabilities to develop the industrial productive sector.
The Archbishop presented to the Minister an appeal from the members of the Chaldean sect to establish a church and a congregation in the capital of the Bekaa, whereby it was agreed to coordinate efforts with the concerned sides, the municipality, the prominent members of the sect and philanthropists to put this project into implementation.
Later, Boujikian received a delegation from the Faour area in Zahle district, and listened to their demands.
