The Lebanese Army Command - Orientation Directorate issued the following statement on Tuesday:
"The Intelligence Directorate in the city of Tripoli has arrested a number of people who formed a cell supporting the terrorist organization ISIS, and they proceeded to purchase individual weapons and ammunition to carry out security operations, taking advantage of the deteriorating conditions in Lebanon. The cell members also sought to recruit other people to help them.
"The cell had started its activity last June and carried out the assassination of retired First Adjutant Ahmad Mrad in Tripoli on August 22, 2021.
"Investigation with the detainees began under the supervision of the competent judiciary."
