Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, emphasized the urgency of forming a new government during a meeting with a delegation from the Press Syndicate, headed by its president Aouni Al-Kaaki, at the patriarchal residence in Bkerke.
"We are all awaiting the formation of the government, which constitutes the executive authority. It is essential to give it confidence, as every day of delay in its formation is a loss for Lebanon,” Al-Rahi said.
The Maronite Patriarch also expressed regret at the return to "the practice of quota-based distribution" of positions, adding, "The role of the prime minister is not that of a mediator, and the formation should not be delayed over disagreements about names. National and living conditions are pressing, and the question is why must we remain among the last peoples to form a government?"
Rahi then reaffirmed his hope in both the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister-designate.
“This is a time for hope, trust, and confidence, both domestically and internationally, and it is essential to translate this into the birth of a new government,” he added.
The Patriarch also urged the Lebanese people to offer support, stressing the importance of national unity and loyalty to Lebanon, not to any external influences, asserting that "the beauty of Lebanon lies in its diverse identity, a mosaic that must be preserved."
