In a country where impudence reigns, failures are repeatedly handed golden opportunities. Amid the internal quota system and the exchange of interests that govern government formation in Lebanon, and at a time when what was called the "rescue government" was formed, Dr. Tarek Metri was appointed Deputy Prime Minister.
A brief review of the minister’s record shows that Metri held several ministries in successive governments, including the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Administrative Development, and Ministry of Culture. He also served as Acting Foreign Minister.
The common thread between all these ministerial positions he held from 2005 to 2011 is the utter failure, as none of these ministries saw any notable achievements during his tenure. On the contrary, corruption and deterioration intensified under his watch.
It is generally accepted that a person is given an opportunity once, or at most twice, to prove their worth. However, to grant someone five opportunities, all of which ended in failure, and who prioritized personal interests over state welfare, is unacceptable, especially at a pivotal time in Lebanon's history.
The undeniable truth, with people like Metri being appointed to power, is that this government will result in nothing but further destruction and devastation for Lebanon.
