Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met at the Grand Serail with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert with whom he discussed ongoing developments, particularly the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 following the extension of the ceasefire agreement.
In a separate meeting, Mikati conferred with Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Bou Habib with whom he reviewed diplomatic and national affairs.
Later, the Prime Minister held talks with Caretaker Minister of Public Works Ali Hamieh.
Following the meeting, Hamieh outlined plans to assess and repair infrastructure damaged in southern Lebanon due to recent aggression.
"Today's discussion focused on conducting technical assessments of international, primary, secondary, and internal roads in affected towns and villages," Hamieh stated.
Hamieh further detailed the comprehensive evaluation plan, which includes dividing the south into sectors for efficient study, surveying structural and infrastructure damage—including roads, telecommunication networks, water systems, sewage, and electricity—and coordinating with relevant agencies to address issues before road restoration. The process will also involve preparing detailed maps, technical specifications, cost estimates, and tender documents.
Additionally, Mikati received Bishop Paul Abdel Sater, the Maronite Archbishop of Beirut, who extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the Mar Maroun feast day Mass.
The Mass, presided over by Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, will take place at 11:00 am on Sunday, February 9, at Saint George Maronite Cathedral in Beirut.
