Prime Mnister-designate Nawaf Salam confirmed that "the government formation is progressing well, and what is being said about portfolios and names falls under speculation."
He said after meeting with President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace: "I want to form the government quickly and am working on it according to the constitutional mechanism; I am committed to what I stated in my first speech and will not compromise on that, and I reject any form of sectarian allocation of roles."
He added: "I want my government to be one of recovery and reform, I am fully aware of the high expectations of the Lebanese people, and I am committed to sparing no effort to form a government that meets their aspirations and deserves the trust of all."
He emphasized that he will work day and night to form the government as quickly as possible because the tasks are significant, and its formation will not take months like previous governments.
He announced that he is engaging with all parliamentary blocs, stating: "I am engaging with all parliamentary blocs and listening to them, but I am the one forming the government, not merely a messenger."
Regarding the Ministry of Finance, he pointed out that it "is not exclusive to any sect, nor is it off-limits to any, and I consider all portfolios to be sovereign."
He concluded by saying: "I favor a government of 24 ministers, as previous national unity governments have essentially functioned as a mini-parliament."
