The Prime Minister-designate, Judge Nawaf Salam, thanked the citizens for the trust they placed in him to undertake this challenging mission in service of Lebanon. He emphasized that what has happened is a call to action to achieve the dreams of the Lebanese people.
After his meeting with President Joseph Aoun and Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri at the Presidential Palace in Baabda, Salam said, "It is time to start a new chapter rooted in justice, security, progress, and opportunities, making Lebanon a nation of free individuals equal in rights and duties."
He added, "A significant part of our people still have their homes and institutions in ruins, and we must rebuild the villages in the Bekaa, the south, and Beirut. Reconstruction is not just a promise, but a commitment." He called for "working to extend authority of the Lebanese state over its entire territory, and the government must develop a comprehensive program to establish a productive economy and create job opportunities for future generations."
Salam also emphasized, "I am not one for exclusion, but for unity; not one for marginalization, but for national partnership, and my hands are extended to everyone to begin the reform process so that no citizen feels left out."
He called for the implementation of expanded administrative decentralization, saying, "It's time to implement broader local governance and reform an administration that has been built on favoritism, and we need to ensure justice for the victims of the Beirut port explosion and fairness for the depositors who lost their money."
He concluded his saying, "I will work in full cooperation with His Excellency the President, and I am hopeful that together we will launch the project of the new Lebanon."
