MP Waddah Sadek indicated that “the opposition’s options are almost decided, and they are in favor of agreeing on the name of the army commander, General Joseph Aoun, if that occurs.”
He explained that “the opposition so far is clinging to the name of its former candidate, Jihad Azour, and is seeking to reach a consensual president with the largest number of votes."
In an interview, Sadek said, “There are no guarantees that the presidential white smoke will emerge from the session of January 9, and the only guarantee remains that the session will continue with successive sessions if no dramatic security deterioration occurs...awaiting the last quarter of an hour to find out whether the session will culminate in the election of a president.”
