Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati visited south Lebanon, where he held discussions with UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Lt. Gen. Aroldo Lázaro at the UNIFIL Sector East headquarters in Ibl es-Saqi. Accompanying Mikati were Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun and other officials.
The delegation also toured the village of Khiam, a site recently vacated by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and now secured by the LAF with support from UNIFIL.
The mission called for accelerated progress in completing IDF's withdrawal from south Lebanon and further deployment of LAF forces in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
UNIFIL emphasized the importance of all parties refraining from actions that could threaten the region's fragile stability, vowing to continue monitoring and reporting violations of the resolution while supporting efforts to maintain peace.
