Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Hector Hajjar announced that Lebanon will not establish new refugee camps or register temporary refugees, emphasizing that the country hosts refugees on a temporary basis only.
Hajjar stressed that “the best solution lies in the return of refugees to their homeland, contingent on rebuilding trust with the Syrian government through political efforts.”
Speaking to "Sputnik" radio, Hajjar noted Syria's improving conditions, fostering hope for refugees' imminent return. He highlighted significant drops in crossings at the Masnaa border, stating that the area is now entirely devoid of refugees.
Hajjar then revealed that over 85,000 undocumented individuals entered Lebanon recently, primarily settling in Baalbek.
Despite challenges, Hajjar expressed optimism about coordinated efforts with international organizations to develop fair and safe mechanisms for refugee return. He also emphasized voluntary return as the only sustainable solution, applauding increased support within Syria to aid the process.
