Caretaker Health Minister Firas Abiad toured hospitals in northern and central Bekaa, as well as Baalbek-Hermel, to assess war-related damages and visit the injured.
During his visit to Riyaq General Hospital, Abiad revealed the toll of the war on Lebanon: approximately 4,000 fatalities and 12,000 injuries. He extended condolences to the families of the victims, wished a swift recovery for the wounded, and expressed gratitude to the healthcare sector for its unwavering service during repeated assaults.
“Despite immense challenges, hospitals like Riyaq and others in the region demonstrated extraordinary resilience, particularly after the Pager explosions,” Abiad stated. He commended the health workers who remained steadfast at their posts, emphasizing the government's commitment to expediting financial support for medical services and war victims.
Riyaq Hospital Director Ali Abdullah highlighted the facility's efforts, managing 900 cases, including 235 fatalities and numerous child victims. "The healthcare sector proved its merit under fire," Abdullah said, lauding the dedication of staff working tirelessly throughout the crisis.
