The Media Affairs Office of the General Directorate of General Security issued the following statement:
On November 27, 2024, following the announcement of a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, Acting Director General of General Security, Major General Elias Baissari, held a meeting with officers of the directorate, particularly heads of regional offices and centers affected by the Israeli aggression.
In his address, Major General Baissari emphasized the critical nature of the coming phase and praised the exceptional efforts of General Security personnel throughout the conflict, especially in the South, the Bekaa, and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
"We are entering a new phase that requires heightened vigilance, dedicated work, and sustained effort. Your mission, alongside other military and security forces and relevant ministries, will not be easy given the scale of responsibilities and challenges ahead. I urge you to immediately assess the damages to General Security centers, begin necessary repairs, and resume operations as quickly as possible. The reopening of these centers is vital for re-establishing state presence in areas that suffered severe attacks, ensuring they are ready to serve citizens returning to their villages and homes,” Baissari stated.
Major General Baissari also called on officers to participate in public awareness campaigns, warning citizens about the dangers of war remnants and encouraging prompt reporting of such hazards. Moreover, Baissari stressed the importance of fostering cooperation, reinforcing national unity, and maintaining transparency and discipline among General Security personnel to strengthen public trust in the state.
