Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met with Interior and Municipalities Minister Bassam Mawlawi at the second presidential palace in Ain El-Tineh. Talks between the pair reportedly discussed the latest political and security developments in Lebanon.
The meeting also focused on efforts to address the current challenges and ensure the safety of the Lebanese people.
After the meeting, Mawlawi shared insights on the ongoing efforts to safeguard Lebanon’s stability.
"We were briefed by Speaker Berri on the coordinated efforts with Prime Minister Mikati, aimed at achieving a result that will protect Lebanon and its citizens, and lead to a ceasefire that will safeguard the entire country, especially the South," Mawlawi said. "We remain cautiously optimistic and urge all Lebanese to stay alert in the coming hours."
"The Lebanese people have shown tremendous national unity in recent months, with both guests and hosts displaying solidarity across the country. We remain hopeful for positive outcomes, and we trust that the efforts of President Berri and Prime Minister Mikati will bear fruit,” Mawlawi added.
On security matters, Mawlawi highlighted the ministry’s ongoing work and the importance of maintaining stability. "We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to support Lebanon’s security," he affirmed.
In response to questions about the status of negotiations and the return of displaced Syrians after a ceasefire, Mawlawi expressed confidence in Lebanon's resilience.
"The Lebanese are steadfast in their attachment to their land, and the Interior Ministry will continue to stand by them to protect Lebanon and its security," he stated.
