Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed his strong solidarity with Lebanon following his meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
"I was honored to meet with Prime Minister Mikati, and the meeting reflected the strong relationship between our two countries, the leaderships, and the peoples," Abdelatty said.
"I conveyed a message of solidarity from Egypt—leadership, government, and people—and reiterated our continued support for Lebanon in these difficult times."
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s unwavering commitment to working towards ending the Israeli aggression and securing an immediate ceasefire. He also stressed the importance of preserving Lebanon's state institutions, particularly the presidency, and the need for a consensual president who enjoys the support of all Lebanese factions.
"The issue of ending the presidential vacuum should not and cannot be linked to the ceasefire, it must be a Lebanese-owned process," Abdelatty stated.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister further highlighted the importance of national ownership in selecting the next Lebanese president.
"We reject any external impositions. No foreign country or entity has the right to dictate who Lebanon’s next president should be."
Abdelatty also mentioned that Egypt's ongoing support for Lebanon includes a humanitarian airlift from Cairo to Beirut. "This is not a gift from Egypt to Lebanon but a responsibility, as we are Lebanon's big sister," he affirmed.
"We will not stop supporting Lebanon, especially in light of the internal displacement crisis, which is a grave injustice. Our efforts will continue alongside the US, European nations, Arab brothers, and all international parties, including China and Russia, until there is an immediate ceasefire,” the Egyptian Minister stated.
Additionally, Abdelatty acknowledged the detailed briefing he received from Prime Minister Mikati on Lebanon’s current needs, including food, shelter, and medical supplies, as the country faces the aftermath of the ongoing conflict.
