Former President Amine Gemayel praised caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati for his stance against Iranian influence and his dedication to national unity.
Gemayel underscored the urgent necessity to save Lebanon and end the ongoing violence.
Following a meeting with former President Michel Sleiman and former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora in Bikfaya, Gemayel stressed the importance of enhancing national unity to facilitate progress across five key areas.
He called for an immediate ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and advocated for the implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701.
Gemayel urged support for governmental and parliamentary initiatives with Arab and international partners to tackle the current crisis.
Emphasizing the importance of electing a new president who could earn the trust of both Parliament and the Lebanese people, Gemayel also highlighted the need for a national rescue government to create a plan for state reconstruction and to address the damage inflicted by Israeli actions, in partnership with Arab nations.
Gemayel identified the crucial task of rebuilding Lebanese authority nationwide, in accordance with the Taif Agreement, calling for the adoption of a comprehensive plan for economic and financial reform and recovery in Lebanon.
Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said: "From the very first day of the July 2006 war, there was a failure to implement Resolution 1701 by both Israel and Hezbollah. While it is true that the Lebanese State sent a significant number of Lebanese troops to the south at that time, we witnessed a laxity in its application."
He stated, "UNSC Resolution 1701 fundamentally begins with the Lebanese State's obligation to comply with all international resolutions, ensuring that no weapons are introduced into Lebanon except for the State or UNIFIL forces and that there should be no weapons present in the area south of the Litani River. These are the resolutions that underlie UNSC Resolution 1701."
He added, "What we are saying is that we are not part of the executive or legislative authorities, but our previous responsibilities and our ongoing concern for public affairs and the issue of rescuing Lebanon, which has reached a very dangerous point, necessitate this initiative to emphasize the need to fully implement these five points."
