German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized that UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon are crucial for the post-ceasefire phase and must be maintained.
Speaking from Beirut, she noted that "both sides of the conflict must protect UNIFIL, and any attack on them violates international law," clarifying that this conflict cannot be solved solely through military means. She added: "Hezbollah must withdraw beyond the Litani River, and the Israeli army beyond the Blue Line."
She stressed that "electing a president in Lebanon would be an important step toward a political solution."
In a message to the Lebanese people, she said: "We will not leave you alone."
