The American police in Massachusetts arrested an individual in front of the US Capitol building, noting that he was planning to assassinate several senior Republicans, including billionaire Scott Bessent, whose appointment as Secretary of the Treasury for President Donald Trump was confirmed by the Senate.
According to the Capitol Police officer's report, a folding knife, two homemade incendiary bombs, and a lighter were found in the possession of Ryan Michael English, a 24-year-old from South Deerfield. He approached the Capitol building, stated that he was carrying knives and Molotov cocktails, and wanted to surrender. He confessed to officers that he intended to kill prominent Republicans in the Trump administration, starting with the billionaire. Foreign agencies reported this.
English told investigators that he traveled from Massachusetts to Washington, DC, with the goal of killing other Republican political figures, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. For him, these actions were aimed specifically at removing these political positions and sending a message. He faces charges including illegal possession of a weapon and explosives on Capitol grounds.
