The leader of Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, told his fighters, "Damascus awaits you," as the opposition factions announced the start of the "encirclement" phase of the Syrian capital as part of a large-scale offensive that began last week, during which government forces suffered significant military setbacks.
Al-Julani, who has started using his real name, Ahmed al-Shara, instead of his military title, said in a statement titled "To my brothers, the free revolutionaries," published by the factions' leadership on the Telegram app: "I urge you not to waste a single bullet except on the chests of your enemies. Damascus awaits you."
