The Israeli army announced that during a nighttime cross-border operation with Syria, troops from the Egoz unit under the command of Division 210 arrested a member of an Iranian-affiliated network in Syrian territory.
It noted that during proactive operational activities within Syrian territory in recent months, Egoz unit forces, along with members of Unit 504 and guided by intelligence, arrested Ali Suleiman Al-Assi, a Syrian citizen residing in the Saidah area in southern Syria, who had been recruited by Iran and was working to gather intelligence on Israeli army forces along the border for future activities. Al-Assi had been under close surveillance and has now been arrested and is being interrogated in Israel.
The Israeli army emphasized that the operation to arrest Al-Assi thwarted and disrupted a future operation and revealed the modus operandi of Iranian elements on the Golan front. Al-Assi has been transferred to continue his interrogation with Unit 504 and security forces.
"We will continue to work to ensure border security and will not allow the Iranian axis to establish a presence and direct hostile activities from southern Syria," it stated.
