Donald Trump shared a letter Tuesday he received from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who condemned the assassination attempt against the Republican presidential nominee.
“Your Excellency,” began the short letter from Abbas to the 78-year-old former president. “It is with grave concern that I have received news and later on watched footage of your attempted assassination.”
“Acts of violence must not have a place in a world of law and order,” Abbas said in the letter dated one day after the July 13 shooting at the Butler, Pa., Trump rally. “Respect for the other with tolerance and valuing of human life is what must prevail.”
“Despicable acts of attempted or successful assassinations are acts of weakness with failed understanding of peaceful measures to resolve conflicts,” the 88-year-old Palestinian leader added. “Differences must be resolved through communication with freedom of expression.”
Abbas concluded his missive from the West Bank by offering the families of those killed and wounded in the shooting his “thoughts” and wishing Trump “strength and safety.”
The former president shared the letter on Truth Social complete with his Sharpie scribblings below the Palestinian leader’s note.
“Mahmoud. So nice. Thank you. Everything will be good. Best wishes,” Trump’s response read.
In the social media post, the GOP nominee added that he is “Looking forward to seeing Bibi Netanyahu on Friday, and even more forward to achieving Peace in the Middle East!”
Trump is slated to meet with Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, two days after the Israeli prime minister’s address to a joint session of Congress.
