President Michel Aoun on Monday stressed that "administrative decentralization will be a priority for the next stage after the formation of the new government."
President Aoun's fresh words on Tuesday came during his meeting at the Baabda Palace with the members of the new Board of Directors of the Mayors' Cooperative Fund, headed by Mayor Ibrahim Hanna.
"Administrative decentralization is one aspect of reforms in providing flexibility in securing the needs and services to people, while maintaining specifications within the formula of national coexistence," Aoun said.
Aoun added that the administrative decentralization comes in implementation of what has been stipulated in the national agreement accord and in line with the evolution of the world's governance systems.
The head of state wished the Mayors' Cooperative Fund's new Board all success in carrying out their duties, stressing his continuous support to their entitled rights.
On the other hand, Baabda palace witnessed a series of meetings touching on an array of political and developmental matters. Aoun also followed up on developments pertaining to the government formation process.
In this framework, Aoun welcoemd MP Fouad Makhzoumi, and discussed with him the situation in Lebanon and the broader region.
Aoun also welcomed Jezzine and Sidon MP Salim Khoury, with talks touching on the general situation, as well as stringent developmental needs related to the Jezzine district.
The President also welcomed at the Baabda palace Editors' Syndicate head, Elias Aoun, and retired Brigadier General Antoine Njeim, who handed him an invitation to attend the honorary ceremony of a number of journalists marking their Golden Jubilee.
The ceremony is organized by the Arts, Sciences and Technology University in Lebanon (AUL).
Among Aoun's itinerant visitors for today had been MP Michel Mouawad, with the current regional situation featuring high on their talks.
President Aoun then met with the Commander of the Gendarmerie, Brigadier General Marwan Sleilati, on the occasion of assuming his new duties.
