A source from the Israeli delegation accompanying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to Washington revealed that he presented US President Donald Trump with a gold-plated "pager" device and a regular one as a commemorative gift.
According to the source, Trump expressed his admiration for the gift, describing the "pager operations" as "great operations," referring to the explosions of pager devices that targeted several Hezbollah members in Lebanon last September.
A political official following the meeting between Netanyahu and Trump said: "We have concluded a highly successful visit that exceeded all our expectations and dreams. It was a historic visit in every sense of the word, with significant implications for the future of the State of Israel. Above all, it was the friendliest visit between a US president and an Israeli prime minister."
It is worth mentioning that on September 17 and 18, 2024, Lebanon and Syria witnessed a series of synchronized explosions targeting electronic devices, most notably pagers and walkie-talkies. This resulted in a number of deaths and injuries to thousands, including children.
The explosions caused widespread panic among the population, particularly as they targeted crowded areas such as residential streets, supermarkets, and even during a funeral in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
According to reports, the pagers and walkie-talkies that Israel detonated were used by Hezbollah operatives, but they also reached civilians, including healthcare workers and non-governmental organizations, which increased the number of victims. It is suspected that the explosions were carried out using small explosive devices controlled remotely.
In November, Netanyahu admitted Israel's responsibility for the "pager operation."
