2025 has officially begun. We’re in it. And as we embark on what can only be described as a new and exciting beginning, I can’t help but wonder what would really make our year the best one yet. How can we kick things ups a notch and make a memorable disruption in the monotony that inevitably creeps in.
I’ve come to the conclusion after recently listening to none other than my all-time favorite, international sensation podcast host Mel Robbins, that confidence is the answer my friends. So, strap on a pair and read on.
According to recent findings, the accurate definition of confidence is the willingness to try. The willingness to put yourself out there. The more you do it, the more confident you become. It is not something you are born with; it is a skill to be acquired through regular practice.
Come to think of it, not many people are prepared to be beginners at something, especially after reaching a certain age. They get wrapped up in ego and fear of looking like a fool. Nonetheless, there is power in trying new things, there are excitement and thrills, not to mention self-improvement and growth. So what if you fall flat on your face a couple of times after taking skiing lessons at 38? So freaking what? That right there is real confidence, real power. Not caring how you’re going to look because you have the desire to learn something new, to improve as an individual.
Another for instance is leaving a career where you’ve become comfortable, where you feel safe, and where you’ve reached a stalemate. You just up and leave one day deciding to go in a different direction, knowing full well that there’s a risk of failure. However, you are willing to try. You are willing to put it all on the line because if you don’t, you are risking something far greater than failing at a new career track: living a life racked with regret.
In that spirit of owning agency over the trajectory of your life, bear in mind throughout 2025 the new definition of confidence. Just try, there is never much to lose and everything to gain.
The real definition of confidence: The willingness to try
