Prime Minister Najib Mikati followed up on the security situation in the country, particularly on the border with Syria, during a contact with Army Chief General Joseph Aoun and security apparatus heads.
During these contacts, the Prime Minister stressed the priority of tightening control over the border situation and keeping Lebanon away from the repercussions of developments in Syria.
The Prime Minister also called on "the Lebanese, regardless of their affiliations, to be wise and avoid emotions, especially at this critical time that our country is going through."
The Prime Minister also contacted the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Judge Mahmoud Makkieh, and asked him to communicate with the “National Commission for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared in Lebanon” and with the Committee for Addressing the Issue of Lebanese Detainees in Syria.
The Prime Minister stressed "the need to put all available capabilities and communicate with the concerned parties in light of the release of hundreds of prisoners from Syrian prisons."
In this context, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers contacted the Authority and the Committee and asked them to meet urgently to make the necessary arrangements to follow up on the file. He was informed that the Authority and the Committee would meet in the coming hours.
