Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed Ali Larijani, Senior Advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, at the Grand Serail. The meeting was attended by Iran’s Special Representative for Middle East Affairs, Ambassador Mohammad Reza Shibani, alongside Mikati's advisors, former Minister Nicolas Nahas, Ambassador Boutros Assaker, and Maher Mikati.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Mikati underscored Lebanon's commitment to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, stating:
"The priority is to uphold Lebanon's position on fully implementing Resolution 1701 without amendments or misinterpretations, to ensure an end to Israeli aggression and achieve a ceasefire,” Mikati stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining national unity.
"It is crucial to avoid actions that could create sensitivities among Lebanese factions or favor one group over another. The government remains dedicated to continued dialogue to reach a consensus,” Mikati added.
In turn, Larijani reaffirmed Iran's support for Lebanon. "Iran backs any decision made by the Lebanese government, including the full implementation of Resolution 1701, and supports the election of a president agreed upon by the Lebanese people."
