Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced that "the consensus among the Lebanese on Resolution 1701 is a rare consensus, and we are committed to it," adding, "We reject any amendments to Resolution 1701, whether by increase or decrease."
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Berri stated, "I have been mandated by Hezbollah since 2006, and it agrees to 1701."
Regarding the visit of US envoy Amos Hochstein, he said, "Hochstein's visit tomorrow is America's last opportunity to reach a solution."
He revealed, "I have a plan to rescue Lebanon that I am working on."
Berri added, "There is an American desire to stop the fire in Lebanon before the elections, and it is not true that Iran is obstructing the path of my plan to rescue Lebanon."
He continued, "The Mikati government is doing its duties as much as possible while facing unprecedented challenges."
He noted that "the real light in the region is the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement," emphasizing that "Israel is destroying everything in Lebanon, just as it did in Gaza."
As for the presidential file, Berri said, "I have never spoken about electing a Lebanese president before the ceasefire," pointing out that "nominating the army commander requires a constitutional amendment and the agreement of more than 86 deputies."
Berri: This is the last opportunity
