The spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated that their forces in southern Lebanon have been targeted multiple times, 5 of which were intentional. In a media briefing in Geneva, he noted that these attacks have put peacekeeping forces at risk.
He described the destruction in various villages along and beyond the Blue Line as shocking and emphasized the need for UN forces to stay in Lebanon, assuring that the morale of peacekeepers remains extremely high.
Additionally, he revealed the potential use of white phosphorus near one of their bases, stating, "We found traces of possible white phosphorus use a few months ago near one of our bases." He also mentioned a drone that fell off the coast of Lebanon, coming from the south and circling their vessel closely.
When asked about the possibility of resorting to self-defense against Israel, he affirmed that it could be an option, but emphasized the importance of de-escalating tensions.
