The US State Department expressed 'concern' about certain aspects of the airstrikes carried out by Israel on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in recent weeks.
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated at a press conference: "We have made it clear to Israel that we oppose the bombing operations it has conducted in Beirut in recent weeks. We have observed a decrease in strikes in recent days, and we will continue to monitor the situation very closely."
Miller added that the United States "has concerns about the nature of the operations," specifically highlighting 'civilian casualties' from the strikes.
He continued: 'There are specific strikes that would be appropriate for Israel to carry out, but when it comes to the scope and nature of the bombing operations we have witnessed in Beirut over the past few weeks, this is something we have made clear to the Israeli government that we have concerns about and oppose.'"
