The outgoing administration of US President Joe Biden announced a ban on the use of Chinese and Russian technology in cars, citing "national security concerns," according to Russia Today.
The ban includes the sale and import of vehicle-connected hardware and software systems, as well as fully connected vehicles containing Chinese or Russian components. The restrictions on software will take effect starting with 2027 models, while hardware restrictions will apply from 2030 models.
The US administration explained that "these measures are necessary to protect the country from national security risks associated with the exploitation of connected vehicle supply chains in the United States by China and Russia." It reaffirmed its commitment to "ensuring that automotive supply chains remain resilient and secure against cybersecurity threats from foreign adversaries."
