The Jordanian security forces announced the killing of a gunman who opened fire on security personnel near the Israeli embassy in the Jordanian capital, Amman, noting that three public security officers were injured during the operation.
The official Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported that the Public Security Directorate "dealt early Sunday morning with an incident of gunfire targeting a patrol operating in the Rabieh area in the capital, Amman... resulting in the assailant’s death."
Reuters, citing eyewitnesses, reported that Jordanian police imposed a security cordon around the Israeli embassy in Amman after gunshots were heard.
Two witnesses mentioned that police and ambulance vehicles rushed to the Rabieh neighborhood, where the embassy is located, following intermittent gunfire.
A security source stated that the police urged residents to stay indoors while security personnel searched for the shooters.
