President Michel Aoun on Thursday welcomed at Baabda Palace, French Ambassador to Lebanon, Bruno Foucher, with whom he discussed the general situation in Lebanon.
Moreover, the French diplomat briefed the President on the outcome of the tripartite French-American-British meeting, which was held yesterday in Paris -- with Lebanon being part of the meeting's discussions' agenda. The three countries stressed their continued support for Lebanon's stability, sovereignty, and independence; they also pushed for the return of constitutional institutions to work.
The meeting was also an occasion to touch on the visit of Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the French Foreign Ministry, Christophe Farno, who returned to Paris with an utmost conviction of a pressing need for reforms at various levels in Lebanon.
Furthermore, the President of the Republic received a congratulatory cable from his US counterpart, Donald Trump, marking Lebanon's 76th Independence.
"The American people share my best wishes for Lebanon's Independence Day. The friendly relations between the Lebanese and American peoples are strong. The United States is ready to work with a new Lebanese government that meets the needs of the Lebanese by building a stable, prosperous, independent, and secure country," Trump's letter said.
It is to note that at 8:00 pm on Thursday, President Michel Aoun will address the Lebanese through audiovisual media marking the 76th anniversary of Lebanon's independence. In his letter, he will discuss the current political and economic developments, and the priorities to be adopted by the new government.
