A “stupid” motorist was arrested after he stole a car to take his driving test - and then failed it for the tenth time.
Police said the unidentified man’s first mistake was to take the white Mistubishi Outlander without the owner’s consent.
He then drove it unsupervised to the test centre in Great Barr, near Birmingham.
He promptly failed.
The man’s disappointment was compounded by the arrival of officers from the West Midlands Police.
If that was not embarrassing enough, the force used its Twitter account to tell the world about his ill-judged adventure.
“Welcome to the world of stupid,” the response team tweeted. ”Male turns up at the driving test centre for his driving test. Having driven himself there unsupervised. Then fails his test for the 10th time. Male arrested by D unit Newtown for TWOC offence.”
The same account reveals a string of offences committed by other drivers with questionable intelligence.
In one case, a banned driver who had just been released from prison for dangerous driving, drove a stolen car to a probation appointment and parked illegally in a taxi rank.
Another motorist was arrested after overtaking three cars illegally outside a police station, before failing a drug test.
A check of his record revealed he had been banned before for the same offence.
Other tweets offer advice: ”If you’re going to be stupid enough to drive with no insurance then don’t keep eyeballing a police car and then drive like a maniac. I’m not impressed by school traffic grand Prix.”
