MP Ibrahim Kanaan on Tuesday maintained that the Lebanese state is on track of fighting the waste of public funds, stressing that there is no way back in that respect.
"The Lebanese state is on its way to fight waste earnestly; we might succeed at places and fail at others, but we will not go backwards," the lawmaker said during a press conference at the Parliament, to elaborate the 2018 budget bill which the Finance Committee he chairs has finalized yesterday.
"Lebanon proved to be capable of reproducing budgets," Kanaan said.
"We are going to Cedre conference with a budget and reforms in hand," he added.
Moreover, Kanaan indicated that the budget bill did not include new levies, but a tax amnesty instead, considering the ailing financial and social condition.
"This measure aims to encourage taxpayers to pay their due arrears," he explained.
