A man armed with a knife wounded at least four people in the German city of Munich on Saturday, police said on Twitter, adding that they were searching for the suspect whose motive remains unclear.
A man "injured several people with a knife" in the centre of Munich and "is still on the run", the local police said on their Twitter account.
"We are searching for the perpetrator of the attack with all available police", said the statement, which added that for the moment the possible motive for the attack remains unknown.
None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Munich police have called on people in the Rosenheimer Platz area, located close to the city's centre, to stay indoors.
Police said the suspect was described as a man in his forties, wearing grey pants and a running jacket, who fled on a black bicycle. He was also carrying a backpack and a camping bed roll.
Saturday's incident follows a knife attack in Marseille on October 1 in which two women were stabbed in the southern port city's main train station, before their attacker was shot dead by police. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
