Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea noted in an interview with al-Akhbar newspaper published Monday that his party would have taken part in the national dialogue brokered by Speaker Nabih Berri had there been any chances of an agreement being reached.
“If they agree even on a single item, then we’d abide by it,” he said, noting that he is quite certain that the conferees will fail to reach an agreement.
Referring to Hezbollah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s desire for a strong president to rule the country, Geagea playfully stated that he’d be willing to satisfy Nasrallah’s demand by becoming president.
“I still stand by my previous comments regarding what defines a strong president,” Geagea noted, adding that a 90 percent approval rate isn’t what makes up a consensual candidate.
The Christian Maronite leader noted that Change and Reform Head MP Michel Aoun will not withdraw his candidacy, “given our natural and daily talks with the FPM, we know he will not e be leaving the presidential race”.
