Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper learned that Hezbollah representatives during the latest round of dialogue with the Future Movement specified the key features that must characterize the new head of state, making sure to lay out the exact specifications held by the party’s ally Free Patriotic Movement Chief Michel Aoun.
This move prompted Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouk to address the issue by reportedly telling the participants that the only president that can be elected is a consensual one.
Sources from both sides revealed that one of the negotiators representing the Future Movement attempted to bridge the gap with Hezbollah by suggesting that the candidate who receives the consent of all Christian factions, namely Aoun, must be elected.
This option didn’t go well with Hezbollah, whose representatives felt cheated out of their stance supporting the “one and only” candidate, MP Michel Aoun.
