Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea noted that the regional situation is very tough, predicting that the coming phase will witness further escalation instead of certain relief.
“Sadly, what is going on in Syria is a humanitarian disaster and one cannot imagine a situation worse than the current,” Geagea noted, adding however that Lebanon isn’t at risk given the Army’s current status.
Geagea noted that the Lebanese Army received clearance from all the Lebanese people and is currently being provided with weapons and ammunition which further empowered the institution against the militants, adding that security forces proved their ability to detect extremists.
The Christian leader deemed the presidential deadlock as a saddening tragedy, noting that Iran is exerting utmost effort so as to ensure that a president isn’t elected unless he shows loyalty towards it.
Geagea assured that dialogue with Free Patriotic Movement Leader Michel Aoun will be maintained no matter what, calling on local factions to preserve calm as the time isn’t proper for a revolution.
