In Lebanon, it comes as no surprise to see banners thanking this or that minister either before or after the implementation of any project, albeit such 'achievements' are actually funded by the state's treasury and neednothing more than the minister's signature.
Such scenes were even more popular during Gebran Bassil's mandate as Minister of Energy thanks to his numerous accomplishments, to which the media diligently paid heed. However, this was not the case in Zgharta's village of Aito.
A few days ago, banners thanking Minister Gebran Bassil for installing electric poles along the highway leading to Ehden abruptly emerged across the area, knowing that the poles had been erected months ago when Bassil had already assumed another portfolio. This led to inquiries as to the belated appearance of these banners by the area's FPM representatives and the denotation of such a step.
The FPM's step is believed to be a strategic step that coincides with the martyrdom anniversary of former Minister Tony Franjieh and his family, which is held annually in Ehden. And so the hanging of FPM banners was meant to spread dismay as the procession will be forced to march under the 'retroactive' posters.
